Mesothelioma and Asbestos Lawyers: Leaders in the Nation

The Weitz & Luxenberg law firm was built on a philosophy that every client's case is the most important, and that each of our clients deserves our very best work.

After 24 years of practice involving asbestos and mesothelioma, defective drugs and medical devices, medical malpractice, general negligence, and environmental pollution, among others, our firm continues to set an unmatched standard of excellence for mass tort litigation, achieving more verdicts than most firms in America. We are also the largest personal injury and mass tort plaintiffs’ firm in New York.

History of Success

Our defective medicine and device unit has won numerous cases involving dangerous pharmaceuticals, achieving a $13.5 million verdict against Merck & Co. the makers of Vioxx. The firm’s other active pharmaceutical litigations include actions against the manufacturers of shoulder pain pumps, Yaz birth control, Zimmer Durom Hip implants, Advanced Bionics cochlear implants, Hydroxycut, and Zicam, among others.

Landmark Asbestos Cases

Such work builds on the firm's very first area of litigation, asbestos, where it established itself with landmark cases dating back to 1991. It was then that we won a historic consolidated trial involving men who had worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in the 1940s and 1950s. Weitz & Luxenberg represented 36 clients in that case, securing verdicts of $75 million. Recent victories include a jury verdict in May 2007 of $37 million for two smokers with lung cancer who had been exposed to asbestos.

Along the path to such successes, the 60 lawyers at Weitz & Luxenberg continually work with the needs of society in mind, recently securing a landmark settlement against some of the country's biggest oil companies for contaminating public drinking water supplies with a gasoline additive known as methyl butyl tertiary ether, or MTBE. Most of those defendants agreed to pay $423 million to settle suits involving the contamination of 153 public and private drinking water systems nationally.
